Putting It On Paper (PIOP)

Putting It On Paper (PIOP): A Creative Writing and Self-Expression Program
Putting It On Paper (PIOP) is a creative writing and self-expression program that helps students discover the power of their own voices through words. Originally developed through Teen Graffiti magazine, this initiative continues under Teens Reaching Teens, Inc. as a literacy program designed to encourage self-expression, confidence, and creativity in today’s youth. In partnership with Lil’ Marco and Friends, LLC, PIOP introduces students to the art of writing—blending literacy, imagination, and identity in a way that is both engaging and empowering.
Program Purpose
The program encourages youth to express themselves through writing and storytelling while strengthening their reading and writing confidence in a supportive, creative environment. Students are introduced to writing techniques across multiple forms, including journal writing, poetry, short stories, and personal essays. Each session helps connect creativity to self-awareness, leadership, and empathy.
Program Format
Putting It On Paper can be offered as a short, interactive session during the school day, an after-school or summer program, or a half-day literacy experience for community groups and libraries. The program includes guided writing activities, discussion prompts, journaling exercises, and opportunities for students to share their work in a positive and encouraging setting. All sessions are designed to be flexible, easy to host, and led by trained facilitators or volunteers.
Who Can Participate
PIOP is open to students in grades 5–12 who enjoy writing, want to build confidence in expressing themselves, or are curious about storytelling and creative careers. No prior writing experience is required—just an open mind and imagination.
